This had proved the case, and he was sorry 10 say that females in the upper and middle classes were rapidly becoming contaminated owing to the facility with which they could obtain drink from the grocers' shops. This fact was well known, and a magistrate, living at a place within 50 miles of Aberystwyth, had made the strong assertion that "one grocer's shop where wine and spirits were sold did more harm than 30 public houses'.
