ABERYSTWYTH. BREACH OF THE BYE-LAWS. On Wednesday George H. Pemberton, proprietor of the Central Hotel, Great Darkgate-street, was charged by Mr Rees Jones, borough surveyor, with building an addition to his house without the written consent of the urban authority. Mr A. J. Hughes, town clerk, prosecuted, and Mr W. P. Owen defended. The Borough Surveyor said an iron portico had been erected on the steps which lead to the Central Hotel. The defendant had never applied for consent to erect the building, and the Council had given no consent. FOR the defence it was contended that the portico was not an addition to the building in the meaning of the Act, and it merely covered a step which had always been the property of the owner of the house. After a long hearing the Bench fined the defendant 1s, and a fine of 10s per day so long as the structure remained after the expiration of 21 days.
