Selling Drink during Prohibitive Hours -William Jenkins, Voylallt Arms, Llanddewi Brefi, innkeeper, was charged by Mr John Lloyd, D.C.C., Aberystwyth, with having sold intoxicating liquors during prohibitive hours at the Voylallt Arms on the 29th August and Jane Jones, Penstar, Llanddewi Brefi, was changed with having been found on the licensed premises of the Voylallt Arms during prohibitive hours on the 29th August. P.C. John Jones stationed at Llanddewi Brefi, deposed that about 10.20 p.m. on the 29th August he was on duty in the village, when he noticed Jane Jones come out of the Voylallt Arms. Followed her for a distance, and saw her go into her house. Afterwards saw her through the window pour the beer into glasses, which were on the table. About 11.30 he again saw Jane Jones carrying a tin can, and suspecting her message, he went and hid himself in a convenient place to watch the back door of the Voylallt Arms. In about two or threw minutes he saw her enter the house by the back door with tincan in hand. When Jane Jones came out he went up to her, took the can from her, and took it to the landlord of the Arms. Asked him why he supplied Jane Jones with drink at that time of the night; when he admitted having sold half a gallon as Jane Jones was so pressing. For the defence, it was stated that Jane Jones's brother had paid for a gallon of beer at Voylallt Arms, and that Jane Jones only went once for it - about 10.30 The Bench inflicted a fine of £1 in the case against Jenkins, and fined Jane Jones 5s.
