Drunk and Assaulting the Police at an Eisteddfod. Edward Jenkins, innkeeper's son, Rose Inn Llangeitho, was charged with being drunk on the highway at Llangeitho village, on Christmas day, and also with assaulting P.C. Evan Evans (95) whilst in the execution of his duty at the same time and place.Defendant pleaded guilty, and expressed regret at what had occurred. He did not know whether or not he had assaulted the constable, but if he had he did not remember doing so. P,O. 25 said on Christmas day he was on duty at Llangeitho, attending on the eisteddfod. About seven o'clock in the evening he was called from the eisteddfod room to another room to turn out the defendant, who was there very drunk, creating a great disturbance. He turned defendant out, and some men took him about forty yards away from the place, where they stopped. Witness went up to defendant and requested him to go home, when be struck witness several blows on the chest, and kicked him. He refused to walk, and had to be carried home by three men. The Chairman said it was disgraceful to see a young man like the defendant behave in such a fashion. He would be fined 10s 6d and costs for being drunk, and £1 and costs for assaulting the police. This punishment, the bench hoped, would be a warning to him, or his end might be worse than the beginning.
