Memories of the Ship and Castle in the 1980s

Conversation with Beth Evans 19 July 2016.
Beth is the daughter of Basil and Sandra Evans who owned the pub from 1979-1989. She remembers them knocking a room through at the back into an old hayloft to make a larger bedroom for her and her sister. During their tenure the two downstairs public rooms were knocked together to make a single larger room.
Beth remembered that the regulars were active socially, taking part in raft races, darts, and even a Subbuteo league.

The pub was then sold in 1989 to a partnership of John Thomas and Ceri ?, from Newport.

Beth also remembered an old iron ship's mooring ring set into the pavement in front of the pub. She has no idea what it was for, as the sea is nowhere near!
