Details of place: Gogerddan

County: Ceredigion
OS Grid Ref: SN625835 = 52.4321414558, -4.02389031589
Type of place: Village
Notes: This is the name of the vast estate of the Pryse family whose mansion was at Gogerddan a few miles north of Aberystwyth. There were several pubs in the county called the Gogerddan Arms which were probably on land owned by them. Their coat of arms included a Black Lion which was used as the arms of just over 20 pubs in Ceredigion, but not all were necessarily on land owned by the family. One of the main inns in Aberystwyth was the Gogerddan Arms, and the other was the Talbot, owned by their rivals, the Powell family of Nantoes.
