Transcript:Drunk.—Edward Jones, miner, Tre'rddol, was summoned for having been drunk on the 23rd December.—Mr Joseph Evans, Aberystwyth, appeared for defendant.—P.C. Jones proved that about nine o'clock in the evening he saw defendant leaving the Commercial Inn, and going towards the bridge. He was drunk, and could not walk straight. About ten minutes afterwards witness visited the Halfway Inn, and saw defendant in the kitchen with a glass of beer before him. John Edwards, the landlord of the Halfway Inn, told witness that he did not notice that defendant was drunk until he had served him. Witness afterwards saw defendant fighting with a man named John Pritchard, and otherwise creating a disturbance.—Edward Evans, landlord of the Commercial Inn, said that he told defendant when he left the house that he was too drunk to be supplied with drink.—For the defence, Charles Williams, a mine agent, said he had a conversation with defendant on the evening in question, and he was not drunk. Peter Williams, Thomas Davies, and John Edwards also gave similar evidence; but the bench considered the case proved, and fined defendant 10s and costs, or 14 days' with hard labour.
Lewis Owen, Taliesin, miner, was charged with a similar offence.—P.C. Jones proved the case. On the evening of the 23rd December he went to the Halfway Inn, where the manager, Mr John Edwards, told him there were two or three men in the kitchen, who were drunk. He gave no name to witness, and he saw the defendant sitting on a settle, apparently drunk. He was fined 10s and costs, or 14 days. Defendant was fined 10s and costs, or 14 days.
