Notes:The Pryse family lived at Gogerddan, about 5 miles north of Aberystwyth. They owned many thousands of acres of land in Cardiganshire, mostly in the north. They owned land within the former walled area of Aberystwyth, and thought they had rights over the governance of the town. A Black Lion appeared on the coat arms, and this was used for the name of a number of inns and pubs in the county.
