Evan Rowlands giving evidence at an inquest at the Derry Ormond Arms:
"Evan Rowlands said I live at Glangors. The deceased came to my house about eight p.m., the night before last. He asked me for a pint of ale, which I supplied him with. I had an occasional license to sell beer, &c., for that day. My daughter was going to her own house. Deceased had several pints during the time he was there he had only remained there two hours. I cannot say that he was drunk. Next morning deceased called again. I asked him where he had come from. He replied that he had slept in the barn over the night. He asked me for a pint of ale, which I refused. My wife gave him some bread and milk. " Aber Obs 24 Oct 1885
