CHARGE AGAINST A LANDLORD.
Edward Evans, Commercial Inn, Tre'rddol, was charged with keeping his house open during prohibited hours on Christmas Day.
The offence was admitted, and a fine of £1 and costs was imposed.
DRINKING DURING PROHIBITED HOURS.
John Jones, labourer, Furnace, was charged by P.C. Phillips with being at the Commercial Inn during prohibited hours on Christmas Day, and was fined 1s and costs.
James Williams, labourer, Eglwysfach, was charged with a similar offence.
P.C. Phillips said he saw defendant at the Commercial Inn with a glass of beer in front of him. He drank the beer up and went out. Later in the day, he came to the constable and declared that it was not true that they were representing themselves to be travellers. As they were passing the house they said to Capt Evans 'We see we cannot get a glass of beer; you are closed.' The landlord then said 'Oh, yes; come in.'
A fine of 5s and costs was imposed. AO 10 Jan 1895

[interesting that Evans is referred to as Capt Evans by witness. Was he a naval captain or a mine captain?]

TALYBONT. PETTY SESSIONS, Drunkenness. P.C. Thomas charged Richard Thomas, labourer, living at Eglwys Fach, with having been drunk near the Commercial Inn, Tre'rddol, on October 11th. The Constable stated that the defendant wanted to fight, but he at last got him to go home. A fine of 5s and costs was imposed
