"BEEHIVE FRIENDLY SOCIETY.—The anniversary of this society, established in 1827, was held on Tuesday, January 1st. The members, about 180 in number, hold their meetings at the Monarch Inn, where the anniversary dinner was provided by the secretary of the club, and the landlord of the house, Mr. John Owen. The President is the Rev. O. Davies, who on Tuesday preached a sermon to the members in the schoolroom, which is used for divine service during the alterations now in progress at the church. About eighty or ninety of the members paraded Tregaron, headed by the Lisburne Brass Band, under the leadership of Mr. W. H. Jones. This band is not strong in numbers, but is of more than average excellence. A large number of the members sat down to dinner, which was of a substantial character, and comprised roast and boiled beef and mutton pies and puddings. The member's contributions are 1s. a month, for which, we believe, 7s. a week is paid during sickness. A gain of about £22 has been made during the twelve months. The funds of the club amount to something under £400." CN 4 Jan 1878

He had occasion to replace some slates on a house in Currier-street and the ladder he used was rather old, and one of its steps gave way, causing him to fall down, and thereby breaking his leg, some ribs, and injuries to his head. He lies in a very precarious state at the Monarch Inn. not being in a fit condition to be carried home, which is about a mile outside the town. Medical aid was secured at once." CN 3 Nov 1882

About 7.30 p.m. the deceased called at our house and asked me for a. bottle of ginger beer, which was given him. After some time he called for two glasses of whiskey, one for himself and the other for my husband, which I supplied him. He left our house by himself about 9.45.
